Men’s Health

A lot of the time Men are renowned for not wanting to share their health issues with those close to them and as a flow on effect may avoid seeking appropriate health care in a timely manner.

We have experienced physiotherapists who understand many issues that may fall under ‘secret men’s business’ who can put you at ease.

At Mind Heart Body Center, we provide a specialised service for men suffering with pelvic pain or dysfunction, urinary incontinence as well as other general musculoskeletal problems.

Pelvic health conditions affecting men can be very distressing and are more common than you realise!

Did you know:

  • 1 in 10 men may experience continence or pelvic floor issues during their lifetime.
  • Up to 70% of men suffer from urinary incontinence following prostatectomy surgery as the bladder control mechanism is impaired following surgery. This can be cured by correctly strengthening the pelvic floor muscles.

WHAT CAN PHYSIO’S TREAT?

Our highly-trained physios work with men of all ages to assess, diagnose and treat a wide variety of health conditions, including prostate cancer related issues (pre- and post-operative prostatectomy rehabilitation), continence issues, and pain in the pelvic region. We can also improve performance, efficiency and prevent injury by assessing and tweaking gym techniques like deadlifts and squats and sport techniques including tennis, cricket, rugby, and golf swing.

We offer:

  • Pelvic physiotherapy (this may involve a Real Time Ultrasound to assess the bladder and pelvic floor muscles).
  • General physiotherapy
  • Physio-led exercise classes
  • Gym technique assessment
  • Sport technique assessment

Our physiotherapist will tailor an individual treatment plan to suit your specific needs. This may include the following:

  • pelvic floor and pelvic muscle exercises to compensate the loss of bladder control mechanism especially following surgery
  • mindfulness and relaxation techniques to boost your mental well-being, increase mental clarity for work, and improve quality of sleep
  • bladder and bowel training
  • specific exercise rehabilitation following surgery – e.g. prostate surgery, ACL reconstruction to guide you return to regular activities. Following prostate surgery you will be limited to light activities. No heavy lifting or strenuous exercise is recommended for several weeks. As you recover, you can gradually return to your regular activities. Our physiotherapist can guide you through a safe return to activity program.
  • prescription of home exercise program to improve your physical function and help you achieve your goals

By supporting you to identify and address the health conditions and techniques that are holding you back, we can help you live life to the fullest with better health.
